DIY: Lace Tabletop

I finally did it! I've been wanting to try this tutorial forever, I got the idea from one of my favorite reads. A Beautiful Mess and it turned out wonderfully. I recently purchased a kitchen table set for only 30$-thrifted, it was somewhat beat up so I didn't mind trying out this tutorial even if it didn't turn out- but since it did I want to share!

So the idea is to make you table look like lace, it's a gorgeous accent to any room, you can practically do it on anything!

What you need:
a table of some sort
Spray paint (I chose white)
masking tape
lace tablecloth/curtain

Make sure you tabletop is clean, tape the lace to the table firmly- make sure there's no wrinkles! Hold the spray paint can about a foot away (make sure you shake well first) then spray evenly on desired area.

Let dry for about 2 hours then pull lace back- ta da! a newly renovated tabletop <3

So I think it turned out pretty good, although since it is a kitchen table I'm going to have to find some sort of primer to put on top so it doesn't come off. which Noah bird around I'm sure the table will get dirty enough and I can only go so long before wiping it down. I will let you know what I use when I have time to hunt.

On another note Happy Saint Patty's Day! Have a good weekend :)

DIY: Saving Flowers

So this tutorial is similar to pressing leaves, saving them between wax paper- so I thought, why not do them to flowers? I came up with the idea while staring at my beautiful but dieing bouquet of flowers from Phil for V-day. It turned out well so far, I\m not sure how preserved the flowers will stay in the long run, but I guess we shall see I just figure this would be great for scrapbooking!

Tips: Make sure you do not iron wax paper directly, I placed a pillow case over top. Also be careful when pressing the flower with your hand, this step is done so the flower is flattened so it actually looks good when ironing.
Once I tried my sample flower (and it turned out so far) I decided to make a fun design so I could actually use the paper in my scrapbook.
Then: wooo! finished product! Hopefully it lasts! :) Let me know how yours turned out, or if you have any tips or tricks!

Etsy Inspires

SO lately I've been thinking about decor ideas, for the new home, and especially the baby's room. Phil probably thinks I'm crazy. But I've never been on my own before, and I've never taken care of anything that was completely my responsibility before, so needless to say I'm overly excited.

On the days (and believe me- there are a lot) when my brain is starving for some insight at work, boredom kicks in and I need something to inspire me to keep my spirits high online shopping comes into play. Thankfully, reading my daily blog reads afterwards gave me some great ideas for some DIY projects- rather than spending a fortune on things I don't need. So here's what I came up with.

This idea came from Etsy naturally, while I was obsessing over some safari name blocks, I though to my self... hello! I can make this! AND it would be all the more special. Should be a fun project, now just have to find the time....

Aren't they cute?

Next, which I have been planning on doing this since I found out about my little one, sewing a quilt- of course with the help from my loyal sewing guru- Mandi. Since the theme of his room I safari I was thinking of doing something with giraffes in green and orange, and maybe personalizing it with his name. I think that would be just darling <3

So these are my future DIY projects. What has inspired you lately?

oh and, Asos.com still to come! - *tomorrow

tie dye me pretty

One of my BFF's Toni Marie is throwing a Woodstock themed party, which I am totally pumped about, I love theme parties and I always become so geeked about them! naturally with less than a month away I would be planning my ensemble. (of course!) So what's a better costume then doing tie dye! HELLO!! I know I've done tie dye when I was little, but I remember nothing what so ever. Me and the girls ventured to Walmart to pick up a kit. After going over and over the instructions we finally mad our shirts, and I think they turned out pretty damn good!

First we had to pick out the design of tie dye we wanted, then crinkle the shirt.
Next we mixed the dyes (Notice the subtle blur in the background, that would be little Lucy)
Then we just sprinkled the dyes over the shirts.
After a run through the wash, we have FINISHED PRODUCT :)

Sorry I haven't blog that much lately, there are so many things coming up, so stay tuned, also my OB appointment is Aug.2 so we get to find out what the sex of the baby is, so excited :D

DIY: Fringe Tee

So I recently found a new Canadian made website, full of local fashionistas: Torontostreetfashion.com. The best part about it it they have a section devoted to DIY. I feel in love with this project, and I do intend to do it. It comes from the blog My Vintage Secret, she has tons of cute stuff on here! Definitely recommend you all to check it out.

DIY: Fringe T-Shirt

The process sounds actually quite easy to follow. I may even be able to do it.

What You Need:

  • One tshirt
  • Fringe
Instructions:

1. Pin on the fringe or other trim of your choice
2.  Sew directly on making sure the fringe doesn’t go under the needle. One thing to note is that if you’re using a sewing machine make sure the tension is loose otherwise the fringe will get sucked up.
