Retro Diner

Finally we are home! After a relaxing week at my parents house, of course after a insanely long drive home I do not feel like cooking so we went out! It's called Angel's Diner, we have been there before but only for breakfast (which is excellent) so we decided to try out the dinner specials. It is traditional diner/homestyle cooking- but with a twist, they add there very own spin on each dish.

The beautiful Marilyn, and the handsome Elvis.

Don't be fooled it's not your regular burger! There's a fried slice of ham, real cheddar cheese, and the burger itself is smother in BBQ sauce... amazing? I think so...
They are actually chicken fingers! They used tempura batter so they would fluff up and add and extra crisp.
Mom ordered a Greek salad, which she was was delish.
I got the grilled chicken sandwich, it came with bacon, Swiss cheese and it had a Dijon dressing (which I substituted for mayo)

It was fun, the pricing is reasonable, but they really spcialize in smoked meats, it comes the mojority of the menu, and every is fresh and cut right there, so if your ever in the neighborhood and come across an Angel's Diner- give it a go!

Last Day Home

So I was home for a week, it was a nice little vacation, and we ended it with a beautiful day by the waterfront. The town was putting on a tea party in honor of the Queen, they had a symphony and Elton John and The Beatles Tribute bands. It was a perfect day, Noah was amazing he absolutely loves people and music- so there was no other place he would rather be. A lot of the ladies dressed up in pretty dresses and extravagant hats in honor of the day. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera card at home so I have to take the pics with my cell- so pardon the quality.

I couldn't make those pictures any bigger because they are so blurry, I am so regretting forgetting my memory card for my camera! well hope you all had a fabulous day!

Some food for thought: La Roca

This past week my grandma took Ashley and I out for dinner at La Roca, the restaurant my mom works at- being she just started a few weeks ago I've never tried it before. Don't be under estimated about the look, the food is delicious, everything is fresh- cooked right on the spot. The specialize in traditional Italian cuisine, but they also have bar & grill favorites, since it was a hot summer day the 3 of us stuck to the favorites. I had chicken fingers and fries (of course), Ashley had a grilled chicken burger with sweet potato fries that looked insanely delish, and gramma had a hamburger- which see said was the best she ever had! Now my grandma is very picky when it comes to food, so for her to say that was really a compliment!

My mom also told me that every Tuesday night is Mexican night, when they have authentic Mexican food, and of course Margaritas! I am definitely going to go back for a Mexican night- maybe the next time I come down :)

Fresh Lime Salsa

This is a simple easy way to make amazing salsa- I make it every summer when I can get all of the veggies fresh and in season. Just chop all your veggies into small cubes, finely chop the fresh cilantro I usually add 3-4 tbsp. Add the juice of 1 1/2 lime- taste after 1 lime (it's really preference, the past salsa I made I added 2 for that extra lime flavor. Add a few dashes of Tabasco sauce or your favourite hot sauce for extra spice, or add none at all for a more mild salsa. Finish with Salt and Pepper to taste. Not only is it delicious, but it's low fat!

Variations:

I have used in the past fresh jalapeno instead of jarred, make sure you take the seeds out or it gets wicked hot! I also added some of the pickled juice from the jar of jalapenos for that extra tang and spice sensation.

If you try out this recipe let me know what you think! Or if you made your own variations feel free to share!

What have I been up to?

My apologies for the lackage of posts, but I've come home to visit my family and currently staying at grammas- which means no connection to the outside world! Even my cell has horrible service. Finally I get to a computer to view the life I've been missing in blogworld. How is everyone doing? I have a few exciting posts to share with you over the next couple of days- well there exciting to me! I tried to create an outfit post- which failed because Noah was being a fuss butt, hopefully in the near future.

Those are just some shots around grammas house, she recently renovated her gazebo, turned out gorgeous (pictures above). I love staying at grammas in the summertime, it's like staying at a bed & breakfast, so beautiful with a huge yard, gorgeous garden, and rooms looking over the river. Hope you all are having a good memorial weekend! :)
